Born in Milano into a Chinese family in 2007, Monica captures the attention of the classical world after winning many international piano competitions, praised for her deeply musical soul, utter naturalness and extraordinary technique.
She began her musical journey at the age of 8. Currently she is pursuing her bachelor's degree at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan with Prof. Cristina Frosini.
Monica has been named Artist in Residence of Fondazione La Società dei Concerti in Milano and is winner of more than 30 national and international competitions.
After winning the Italian Steinway Competition with unanimity, she represented Italy at the 19th International Steinway Festival in Hamburg. In 2023 she won the Livorno International Piano Competition where she was the youngest contestant. She has been guest of the Italian TV program “Prodigi” on Rai1 where she performed live the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody nr. 10 and won the prize as best musician of the show. She has been invited many times by the Bocelli Foundation and had the honor to perform in front of the President of Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella in the Gustav Mahler Saal in Toblach.
Monica has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, among which the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Bodensee Philarmonie of Konstanz, Orchestra del Teatro Goldoni of Livorno, Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi, working with distinguished conductors like Peter Bay, Gabriel Venzago, Eric Lederhandler. She is regularly invited to perform as soloist and chamber musician for important festivals and promoters in Italy, United States, Germany, Iceland, Austria, France, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, United Kingdom, Marocco, Russia, in prestigious halls such as Sala Verdi in Milano, Van Cliburn Concert Hall in Texas, Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Boesendorfer Salon in the Musikverein in Vienna, Ridotto del Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Ed Landreth Hall in Fort Worth, Teatro Verdi in Pisa.
In April 2024 Monica stepped in at a short notice pianist Yunchan Lim in Milano: “Zhang played the famous Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky with great balance, warmth and accuracy like a mature artist” observed the critics.
In 2023 and 2024 she attended the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Lilya Zilberstein, the Eppan Piano Academy with Michel Beróff, Andrea Bonatta and Janina Fialkowska and the Stauffer Academy in Cremona with Enrico Pace.
Monica performed twice for Maestro Evgeny Kissin who praised Monica for her talent.
In 2024 she was selected as one of the eight highly gifted pianists from around the world to study two months in the prestigious “Theo&Petra Lieven Piano Foundation” in Vienna, performing multiple concerts and receiving private guidance from world renowned professors such as Alexei Volodin, Eliso Virsaladze, Lilya Zilberstein, Francois Frederic Guy, Davide Cabassi, Arie Vardi, Robert Levin, Ya-Fei Chuang, HaeSun Paik, Andreas Staier, Alon Goldstein, Claudio Martinez Mehner.
In 2025 she was among the 24 Young Artists selected to attend the PianoTexas International Academy & Festival in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.
In September 2024 her first CD for Da Vinci Classics has been released, featuring works by Chopin, Liszt and Sollini.
